Law enforcement officers are now investigating the details of the tragedy that occurred in Khashuri.

The worst tragedy likely occurred last night. This morning, a father returned home from work to find a horrific scene in his family – his 9-year-old son, Luka Barbakadze, was dead, and his wife was unconscious.

According to locals, the woman is in a coma and has not yet regained consciousness. She is in the clinic.

An autopsy will be conducted on the child’s body to determine the cause of death. There are no signs of injury to the mother or child, so according to one version, intoxication is the cause of the child’s death, although gas intoxication has been ruled out, so it is assumed that food poisoning occurred.

According to locals, Luka’s father is a railway employee. Last night, he was on night duty, working a shift, and this tragedy happened when he returned this morning.

Luka Barbakadze was a student at Khashuri Public School No. 8. His school is in mourning.

“I don’t know what to tell you, something terrible happened, a great tragedy, I can’t put it into words. Luka was at school yesterday as usual, in his usual mood. We have no information. Something happened at home. An examination will be conducted on the child and a conclusion must be drawn. It is likely a case of poisoning.”

“This heartbreaking story was told to me this morning by a neighbor. It’s a very good family, hardworking people. The father wasn’t home last night, he works at the railway and was on duty, he came in the morning and found this disaster. The child was dead, the mother was unconscious.

“They say they ate something and got sick. We don’t know anything else yet. We’re all in shock,” a local says.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs has launched an investigation into the incident under Article 116 of the Criminal Code, which refers to the killing of a person by negligence.
